For whom is Presbyopia CK suitable
The Presbyopia CK operation is suitable for correcting presbyopia, i.e. a loss in the eye’s ability to focus on nearby objects.
What is Presbyopia CK and how is it performed
Presbyopia is a loss in the eye’s ability to focus on nearby objects. It is the reason why reading glasses become necessary for people older than 40.
Before the operation every patient must undergo a detailed and comprehensive examination using special computer diagnostic tools. The physician will specify a plan and the possibilities for treatment using Presbyopia CK based on the results and a clinical examination. In the majority of the cases the operation is performed on the non-dominant eye (the patient tries out the post-operational state for one or two weeks using a contact lens).
The operation is carried out using radio-frequency waves, which are directed at 8 – 16 points of the stroma on the periphery of the cornea using a micro-probe. After the operation there is a small arching of the cornea, 2-3 mm around the centre. This corrects the presbyopia and the central vision of distances is only slightly weakened. This vision is referred to as simultaneous. The resulting effect is good distance vision and reading with both eyes.
The Presbyopia CK operation is carried out on an out-patient basis using local anaesthetic drops. The physician marks the centre of the cornea and, using a special probe, applies radiofrequency energy to the periphery of the cornea. The operation is painless and only performed on one eye.
What are the advantages of Presbyopia CK

- Minimally invasive method
- The correction is performed outside of the vision’s axis, in the cornea’s periphery
- The operation is only carried out on one eye – the non-dominant one
- It is possible to combine the operation with other refractive treatments
What are the limits of Presbyopia CK
Due to the natural changes of the aging eye it is necessary, after several years, to repeat the correction or choose a different treatment (for instance PRELEX) that will once again correct the ongoing defect.
What can be expected after the treatmentu
In the majority of cases nearby vision improves the day after the operation. Stabilisation takes 2 - 3 weeks. Drops are applied approximately a week after the treatment to improve healing. The second day after the correction it is possible to carry out the majority of day-to-day activities and after a week no activities are restricted.
